There's seating in the front for when there is a wait, but we didn't have to wait too long on a Saturday afternoon. It's kind of inconspicuous in the complex among all the other restaurants and stores but they definitely have quality sushi. We ordered the mango roll, unagi, shrimp, and tuna. The mango roll is definitely unique, and the sauce makes it especially delicious. My only complaint is the tuna was very hard to chew, not sure why. They only had one waitress managing all the tables, yet service is still prompt. Would definitely come back here next time I'm in the area

Had the Chicken Katsu, their Katsu sauce was excellent, best I've had in SJ!!!
Salad was excellent too!!! Did not care for the cut of beef they used for their steak, too tough; but I'm not holding that against them. Service was very good.
Mellow, clean spot! Would come back again!
Went back and my girls had sushi: they loved the spicy salmon sushi and the Mexican sushi rolls and the lobster roll all of them were excellent! had sukiyaki for the first time, broth reminded me of French dip au jus... very good!

This is my favorite Japanese restaurant. Specifically, I like fresh sushi and rolls. The interior is cozy and people are nice. :-)

This is a really quaint shop that serves yummy and fresh Japanese fare.

My personal favorites here are the Nabeyaki Udon and the Chicken Rice Porridge (Zosui). The udon comes in a cool stone pot filled with savory broth, chicken, mushrooms, cabbage, egg, and noodles. Their noodles aren't like your usual udon noodles, but they taste good all the same. It also comes with a side of tempura (vegetables and shrimp). The porridge is like a boosted version of the udon. It's super flavorful and bursting with chunks of chicken, perfect comfort food when under the weather or stressed out. Some other kitchen items I like from their menu are the salmon and chicken teriyaki. It's not overcooked and the teriyaki sauce is not overly sweet compared to some other places.
The fish here is also pretty good. They have a huge selection of specialty rolls, but I think their sashimi shines the most. They give you rather sizable slices of fish that always tastes fresh, never fishy. The presentation is always pretty too.

However, the service here is definitely the best part of eating here. The cute Asian lady that's always here when I come looks like she's working all by herself, but she's still attentive and friendly. The food comes out at reasonable times too. The prices are pretty much the basic of other Japanese restaurants. As a student I can't really afford to eat here often, but if I could, I definitely would be coming in every week.

This place is great for reservations. We came in with a party of 10 for lunch and the service was absolutely fantastic. The food was really good quality, from the miso soup to the teriyaki salmon and the rolls. Everything was fresh and we got very fast service. I would strongly reccomemd this spot for casual business lunches. They also have separated seating for large reservations which was nice because we sat in our own room pretty much.

Good food. Good service. Good atmosphere. You will not be disappointed so check them out for yourself.

This Azuma restaurant has an excellent quality and we were very content.
Knowing myself being a Sushi maniac I was so happy to eat there.
Azuma has a variety of selections from the menu.
Clean, classy atmosphere with character decorations all around the seating area.
Fun for children and adults to look around.
Polite, friendly service you will admire.
Thank you for everything we will be there again .

    Excellent Sushi restaurant.
Nice day to go out for shopping and lunch today and stooping by at Azuma San Jose was an excellent choice.
We all got to eat a lot and the friendly and polite people were treating us with TLC.
I am a Sushi mania and I highly recommend this Azuma blossom hill when you get a chance to stopping by.
Quality and quantity was absolutely great and I consider myself very picky when I choose to eat out for Sushi.
    I was so content.
Atmosphere was so calm and classy and charisteristic with cute decorations all around the seating area.
I am going to name each and every one of them every time I eat there.
It was also very clean and comfortable.
    Thank you for everything.

Sat at the sushi bar. Restaurant was relatively empty. Maybe 3 other groups.

Forgot my reading glasses and the hostess/waitress lent me a pair for the night. I had a few other requests that were quickly filled. While it is a Japanese custom to provide excellent service I feel the crew went above and beyond my expectations.

The sushi/food was good. Not great. The spider roll missed the mark. Other items were good.

It's a shame with the large number of packed restaurants in the area that have Terrible service and even worse food that this place is empty. Reviews at 4 stars are on the mark. If you want good service and a good meal give this place a try.

    Good service and good food!

I had he best miso soup of my life here. It was great. I ordered tonkatsu and chicken katsu, was all good, it looked like they cut up Brussels sprouts for the base of my meal, it was nice. My wife ordered a sushi roll which she enjoyed. We then ordered the abalone sashimi and let me tell you, if you haven't ordered abalone sashimi before, be prepared. There is a reason that you normally hammer the hell out of it before breading and frying up, it is tough. I mean tough as shoe leather, it tastes good but, yeah, prepare your jaw for a workout. Great decor, excellent service and good food. We will definitely be back for more.

I am a huge fan of Azuma Japanese Cuisine in Cupertino, so when the new location opened up near my house in south San Jose, I was thrilled! I've got to tell you, the original agedashi tofu is the standard by which I compare all other restaurants' agedashi tofu against. I'm not kidding. Each time I try a new Japanese restaurant, I compare their agedashi tofu with the awesome version at Azuma's. I'm not sure why, but both times I've tried it at the new location, it just hasn't lived up to the original. My first visit was in September, just a few months after they opened, so I wrote that off to being new. However, I just went again a couple of weeks ago, and it still wasn't quite right.

In addition to the agedashi tofu, I have tried their karaage chicken, fresh salmon nigiri, shrimp tempura roll, California roll, and miso soup. The soup is very flavorful and loaded with diced silken tofu. Everything has been good and the waitress has done a good job. I was surprised at my most recent visit, there was only one waitress covering the full restaurant, but she seemed to do just fine.

This new location is in the shopping center with Outback, Tugboat Fish & Chips, and what used to be Sports Authority. I'll definitely be coming again. I just wish they'd figure out how to fix the agedashi tofu.

Great place to eat with family dinner. The restaurant gives cozy and warm atmosphere so that family can relax and enjoy the food. Also great place to eat with your date.
Food is amazing. I ordered sake sashimi and i grabbed quality and quantity. Also rolls are tasty and fancy. I would come back to this restaurant

  • *****

Cant find sushi places like here in this area.
Love "under the sea" roll and "play boy" roll.

  • *****

Went here for dinner on Valentine's Day and I loved it!!! I believe it was short staffed and I came at 830 but they still took people in which was cool cause they close at 9. A lot of people were ordering rolls too so a server let us know there was a wait but I didn't mind waiting at all. Me and my bf ordered rainbow, Cupertino, Snow White, and bubble bubble. All of it was so good and well worth the wait. All of the servers were nice and they didn't seem annoyed and didn't make me feel rushed. I will definitely be coming back here!!

  • *****

Attempted to hit Outback but the wait was 45min so with 2 kids in tow we decided to try sushi. We were greeted by a younger (Korean maybe) server who was amazing. Very patient with our overtired crazy kids. The service was amazing! I was so impressed I had to leave a big tip. We had a mixture of appetizers and sashimi and everything was great. Even the dessert plate she made for the kids was awesome!

  • *****

I've always said, "service with a smile should never be underrated" and at this restaurant it remains true! The large menu might be intimidating to a newcomer, but thanks to the servers, i chose delicious dishes! The sashimi floated to the table on an elegant bridge, and the miso-- WOW! Definitely worth your while. Thanks Azuma II!

    (Also the tea is great)

  • *****

One of my favorite sushi restaurant in San Jose!
All workers are really nice and food is GREAT and FRESH.
Espeicailly, mango and playboy roll were my favorites.

  • *****

I went there after the owner got changed, and I liked the atmosphere and service, specially I enjoyed the Tonkatsu(so juicy and thick), Donburi (the portion was enough), and Sashimi (so fresh).
I felt that the quality didn't go down as the previous owner and the price range was reasonable.

  • *****

One of my friends recommended to me this restaurant and I really liked there.
Particularly I liked Sushi and Tempura.
I wanna have dinner there again.

  • *****

Had been here for a friend's birthday and decided to come down here again for my own birthday!

They had a great delicious assortment of Japanese food with sushi, sashimi, noodles, and delicious fried foods as well. I personally liked the volcano roll as my favorite! If you're not into sushi in general, there's definitely other stuff to try here though. Not to mention the sweet hot sake and delicious tea I had was a nice bonus to wash down the savory food.

The service was excellent and quick. I felt almost like at home with the care they gave towards their customers.

Overall, I had a wonderful night there, and will definitely be bringing some family and more friends down here next time!

  • *****

Good, friendly service. This is my favorite Japanese restaurant in south San Jose! they have fresh fish and good food.

  • *****

We have come here since they opened last spring many times. This is consistently one of the best restaurants in the so bay. Sashimi is always fresh, the tempura done perfectly. All the soups are very large and delicious. We love the ambiance too. Quiet relaxing music, and very clean surroundings. Our favorite restaurant here in Blossom Valley. Prices are very reasonable also.

  • *****

I've come here a couple of times now, and every time, the food has been wonderful! I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Japanese food :)

They serve a wide range of Japanese food, from sushi to croquettes. I especially enjoyed the sushi because it was so fresh! I would definitely order it again the next time I go back. The croquettes were also perfectly fried and very crisp.

The service was also excellent. They really cared about the customers and everything was very quick.

Overall, I would really recommend this restaurant to everyone! I had great experiences there.

12.24.2016 - My friend & I stopped by to eat at one of the other restaurants, but it was closed. We saw this place & fell in love instantly. The atmosphere was wonderful & presentable. The employees were phenomenal especially our hostess & server. I believe our server's name was Sunny & never gotten our hostess's name, but both of them were wonderful & gracious.

Was a good quiet spot to enjoy some sushi. I had the Alaskan Mango Roll which was very good and there was quite a selection to choose from. The sushi was fresh and the price was good especially for this area. I enjoy Fuji or Mizu more but they are also more expensive. I will probably be back to Azuma again.

  • *****

I wanted to go to a sushi joint that wasn't Kenzo and was nearby. I'm so glad I found this place. I absolutely love their decor! It gave me a Spirited Away type of vibe and the music they play matches it perfectly.

I ordered the Alaska Mango roll and red dragon roll. I was really impressed how good they were since I'm not a huge roll fan. The Alaskan mango roll was simple and refreshing. They red dragon roll was also simple but had so much flavor! I really appreciated how this place kept it simple with these rolls instead of shoving a bunch of extra nonsense into them like a lot of other places.

I will definitely come back to try their sashimi and other rolls.

  • *****

The service here is AMAZING!! They definitely take care of their customers. Food comes quickly and everything tastes fresh! It looks clean other than wear and tear the ambiance is soothing!

  • *****

My friend and I were craving sushi so much, so we stopped by this place a few days ago. Too bad they were out of uni which is our favorite, but the ones we got were fantastic too. We tried the spicy inari for the first time here and it was pretty good. Also, their hamburger steak is amazing! The patty was tender and juicy and the sauce was addicting. We will definitely go back to this place.

  • *****

I would personally recommend this spot over chacha (due to the long wait and mediocre rolls), as well as kenzo (which is only worth going to for their buffet deal). I tried the mango roll and the red dragon roll. Both were quite satisfying. I thoroughly enjoyed the style they've chosen for the interior as well as the service provided by the gentle waitress. A nice calm place to have dinner with a friend or two. This spot is underrated but much appreciated by the patrons of south sj who happen to wander in.

Had the Chicken Katsu, their Katsu sauce was excellent, best u have had in SJ!!!
Salad was excellent too!!! Service was very good.

I have been going to Azuma I since it opened 30+ yrs ago, I am delighted that they opened II in South San Jose it makes my drive from Morgan Hill for a sushi fix much faster. It follows the mothership to the letter, good quality food, same sauces and being new very clean. The service is top notch with a smile. I love the Agedashi tofu sauce.

  • *****

If you like sushi, you will like Azuma and I will be back again and again.

Best sushi place in san jose!

  • *****

Been here several times now and I have to commend them on their quality sushi and service. I used to come to Shin sushi all the time and was sad to see them close, but I am very pleasantly surprised with this new place that replaced them! The staff are incredibly nice and the food is delicious. Will definitely be returning here next time I want a sushi fix!

  • *****

Shin was good and filled a big void in South SJ, but this kicks up authentic Japanese food another notch in the area. Good variety of food offerings and a decent Sake list. A couple bucks more than Shin overall though. Hot foods were not over seasoned/salty, salad was fresh, miso soup actually tasted like miso, and sashimi was fresh. The service really stood out...nicest gals providing service with a smile.

  • *****

My parents use to go to Azuma I in Cupertino for a long time and recently I heard Azuma II has newly opened in San Jose area. I decided to try this new place and it worked!
My friends and me were able to enjoy same quality of food with reasonable price.
If you want to try a traditional Japanese cuisine, this is the place.

  • *****

  • *****

I'm someone who usually gives restaurants brutally honest ratings, and after reading Azuma's on Yelp (especially having been to the one in Cupertino), I was expecting a 2 star food and service, but it was legitimately good surprisingly. As someone who eats at Japanese restaurants all the time, the 3.5 is inaccurate if you ask me, it feels like a solid 4.5+ all around. The staff there are incredibly polite and knowledgable, they greet us warmly when we come and when we leave. Because there weren't many people the ambience was perfect, quiet music and tatami seating make it amazing for couples on date night and business meetings. The food was a solid 5 out of 5, the sushi was thick and fresh. The real treasure was the the kitchen food (something all decent San Jose folk MUST try at least once). The tempura is especially delicious and crunchy and the appetisers and house specials are really unique and memorable, I don't think even Japantown in San Francisco or San Jose can compare to some of their house specials.
The only thing I thought could use some improvement was that they are mildly understaffed. They're super polite and timely nonetheless, but one extra waitress wouldn't hurt in my opinion. Overall if you're looking to enjoy non-stereotypical Japanese food over a nice long, quiet conversation (business, casual, or romantic) with polite and not too bothersome staff at lunch OR dinner, this is the place.

This restaurant has quality Japanese food and sushi at a reasonable price! I went with my brother, the tonkatsu-nut, and was definitely satisfied with our lunches.
He ordered the Tonkatsu bento box while I ordered the Sashimi Moriawase. Both entrees come with soup, salad, and vegetable tempura.

MY BROTHER INHALED HIS FOOD. He didn't even bother to talk to me between bites. Normally, he's pretty talkative and tries to keep pace with me... but, he killed his tonkatsu. I was able to persuade my brother to give me a piece. It was after I ate my tonkatsu piece that I realized why my brother wanted to hoard his meal. The batter on the tonkatsu was a masterpiece and the pork cut wasn't too thin. I actually didn't miss out on much while he was eating because my entree was phenomental as well. I'm pretty basic when it comes to sashimi cuts. I was very satisfied with how fresh my hamachi, salmon, and tuna pieces were. I'm literally drooling as I write about it...

Since my brother was still hungry, he ordered an Alaskan Mango roll right after finishing his tonkatsu. Of course I had to take a bite (because guess who was paying?? me!). The mango, fish and sushi rice all came together perfectly (esp. with a dap of wasabi on the roll). The roll was tasty as well as visually appealling.

The ambiance is great, the servers are super attentive and my bill didn't hurt my wallet.
I would definitely recommend Azuma to my friends!

Had dinner for the first time here yesterday with my son. Was impressed with the interior design and attentive service. I ordered a sashimi dinner-- pieces were fresh and cut perfectly. The miso that came along was great. Son ordered chicken karaage and loved it. Will be back when I am in town.

This place is one of my top favorite restaurants.
They have great, diverse sushi and kitchen menu. I'm more of a sushi person so I ordered couple rolls and sashimi. On the other hand my mom is more of a kitchen food person so she ordered nabeyaki udon and salmon misoyaki. And the restaurant is well decorated, simple yet it has a cozy atmosphere.

All their rolls were cut and organized (no rice was sticking out) and the moment the sashimi/rolls touched your tongue it melted like snowflakes.

My top fav, New Mexican roll-highly recommended if you like spicy food and cilantro.

Alaska mango roll was very unique, simple, and classic roll. It was a ca roll topped with mango, salmon, avocado, and mango sauce.

Nabeyaki udon- man the portion was enormous! I loved how they had small amount of tempura on the side (super crispy and mouthwatering) the broth was perfect with chili peppers on the side.

My mom's fav: salmon misoyaki. It's grilled salmon topped with miso paste with cute edamame beans on top. It has an incredible taste. I had never seen my mom order another bowl of rice!

Service was super friendly. They refilled my tea without having to ask for them. They also gave me good recommendations on their menus.

Overall, I had an amazing dinner at azuma and I can't wait till i come back to try more of their goodies! Thanks azuma!

#1 best quality best Japanese restaurant in San Jose

  • *****

My new favorite Japanese restaurant in the South Bay area. The restaurant is fairly new -- a few months I think -- but they have old authentic Japanese dishes on their menu, which was a nice surprise.

My friends and I came for a get-together dinner last week. Three of us ordered two combo dinners and a couple rolls. The chicken katsu was out of this world -- tender and crisp to perfection -- literally the best I've ever had. Beef sukiyaki was yummy with rice. Sashimi was excellent -- came with tuna and salmon, portions were generous and melted in my mouth. The two rolls we ordered, upon recommendation by the waitress, were the Big Smile Roll and the Alaska Mango Roll. Would re-order them next time I go, except I wanna try everything else on the menu...

One of our friends is vegetarian so she ordered the age-tofu appetizer (crisp tofu cubes) and cucumber salad. Raved about both. The cucumber salad is different than that of most restaurants I've tried it at -- it is in a sweet vinegar sauce (I think?) which compliments it nicely.

The restaurant is somewhat pricey, but well worth in my opinion for the portions, flavor, quality, and authenticity. Our waitress was a gem and the other staff were sincere. This is a hidden gem within San Jose! We'll be back, Azuma!!

Was shopping in the area and decided to stop by Azuma. I ordered the Nabeyaki udon and it was delicious. The broth was flavorful esp with some spicy chili powder. Came with a small side of tempura. Overall a lovely lunch in their cute restaurant. Looking forward to returning for more udon when it starts getting chilly.

    Very friendly and very delicious!
Especially rolls are so good. Just try any rolls and you won't regret it!
My goal is to try every roll in this restaurants~

I was craving sushi and happened to stop by this restaurant during my stay in California. Not only was I greeted by friendly service, but the interior is clean, and well-organized. Also, the sushi rolls are delicious. I ordered a Salmon roll along with a Golden California roll, and both were delightful. With a wide choice of dishes to choose from, all at a reasonable price, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy a nice Japanese dinner or take the family out for sushi.

  • *****

A good neighborhood Japanese restaurant down in South San Jose. I've been to the first Azuma's before, found myself in this area and decided to see if this location was as good as the original. It was, and as an added bonus, cheaper than the original location too!

Ordered a beef sukiyaki, seafood tempura, and a nigiri combo to split - for the nigiri combo, the salmon and tuna were fresh and reasonably priced. Beef sukiyaki was well flavored and made in the traditional manner with cellophane noodles, etc. Seafood tempura was crispy and well battered, and I was very pleased that the portioning for the shrimp tempura was respectable (many other places give only one or two piece of shrimp, and my order had multiple).

Complimentary tea was nice and hot, and service was very attentive in making sure our teapot was full throughout the night.

Would definitely recommend, and would revisit if I'm ever back in the area!

  • *****

Even though the place is new I would recommend coming here to eat. Don't compare it to the old Shin's which was in the same location. They have their own unique taste. I had the Shrimp tempura and Beef teriyaki combo. The beef was cut into thick slices and cooked to medium rare. The tempura was plentiful. Another person in the party had the Tankatsu and was cooked perfectly. The sauce plentiful. Definitely coming back for another meal.

  • *****

1st time here with my sons. We are serious Sushi lovers. This restaurant is exceptional. Great fresh food, clean environment, and exquisite staff. Highly recommend but go and eat for yourself.

  • *****

They offer amazing traditional Japanese food. Some of them you can only get here at Azuma ii or Azuma 1 in cupertino. I used to go to Azuma one for years ( pretty sure they've opened for at least 35 years). I am so glad that they open one here in Blossom hill

  • *****

We have come twice for dinner this month and were overall very happy. Service was good, loved the new remodel, prices reasonable and the food was delicious. Tried the tuna sashimi , it was fresh. We both liked the miso soup and salad , better than Shin's. The rice bowl was enough for two. We will definately return.

  • *****

I liked the decorations and atmosphere of this place, so I was looking forward to enjoying the food.Food variety and presentation were very good, but for the price, I thought it was way too overrated and portions were too small. If you are hungry, get ready to spend tons of money.

  • *****

This place has always been enjoyable. Great place for saki bombs

  • *****

They changed the name and ownership! There is one in cupertino that sounds familiar. It's not Shin sushi anymore but i like this place better!!

  • *****

My husband and I have been coming here for over 20 years, and it never fails to be delicious! No matter what item you order, it is flavorful and fresh. My son spent 2 weeks touring Japan last summer, and he says Shin Sushi has the same high quality authentic food as he enjoyed in Japan! The waitresses are friendly and efficient, the chefs are masterful, and the atmosphere is relaxing! This is the BEST Japanese food in all of the Bay Area! Enjoy!

  • *****

Staff are extremely nice. Quiet place with good food at very good prices. Can't believe I waited so long to come here!

  • *****

They are closing it April 23rd, I am so bummed! They are changing ownership so it won't be the same. Everyone, Go there before they close!

Very high quality sushi. Friendly service, comfy pillows, not expensive, quiet, well lighted, nice bathroom. I would recommend this place to anyone who would like to have sushi in south San Jose.

    We liked it
My family and I really liked the food here and the service was excellent. They even brought out some miso with lots of tofu for our toddler. The place is definitely kid friendly. I think that the quality and price go hand in hand - price is average and sushi is a little above average. The teriyaki ribs are also really good. Looks like the other 2 reviews here were written by the same person who probably had a bad experience and decided to express their opinion more than once. Pros: Friendly Service, Good Portions

Great Sushi, Awesome Ice Cream, Miso Soup #1
My girlfriend first told me about this restaurant, and anytime we feel like going out for Sushi we go here. The location is close, the food is delicious, the green tea ice cream is to die for, and we always leave full.\r \r The only thing that stops us most times is it's price. Were both college students, and don't always have much money to spend on food. On average, we spend about $35 on a 2 full meals and ice cream, but it's always worth it.\r \r I'm a vegetarian, and they always make me sushi w/o meat, and vegetable tempura. I was shy at first but the staff was very very friendly and helpful. I always order avocado and cucumber sushi - it's excellent!\r \r I highly recommend coming here! Don't forget to try the green tea ice cream! Pros: Green Tea Ice Cream, Parking, Service Cons: Price (Not Too Bad)

Local sushi joint with plenty of good service and parking
Shin is a local family owned sushi place located in the old Sunrise Plaza on Blossom Hill Road. Shin Sushi has moved locations once, when the huge Sunrise Plaza did a renovation. This is a small restaurant, signs are all hand printed, booths are very close together, but the Bento boxes are delicious and the sushi always fresh. The portions here tend to be huge, I ordered tempura and got a large basket filled with different types of squash and other veggies.

I'm a vegetarian, and they always make me sushi w/o meat, and vegetable tempura. I was shy at first but the staff was very very friendly and helpful. I always order avocado and cucumber sushi - it's excellent!

I highly recommend coming here! Don't forget to try the green tea ice cream!

Recently dropped in for the first time since the transition from old to new. In the course of renovation, they botched the woodwork on the wall. I hope they fix it up since it looks pretty shabby now.

The service was really friendly and the waitress did a nice job fussing over my 12 year old. He felt appreciated. Nigiri was fresh and well made. As strip mall sushi places go, this one is pretty good. I will definitely be back.

Pretty good neighborhood sushi spot. Better than Shin Sushi (previous restaurant here). Note: the restaurant sign is still of Shin Sushi, not sure what's up with that.

Had the Chirashi bowl and Hamachi Kama. Both weren't the best I ever had, but they were decent/respectfully delicious. Fresh sashimi and decent quality throughout the entire meal.

Decor in the restaurant wasn't bad. I didn't notice any "shabby" woodwork/walls as mentioned by the first Yelp reviewer here. Not that this stuff matters to me in rating a restaurant. Service is good. Water was refilled without having to ask.

Prices were reasonable. Restaurant is family friendly and decent looking enough not to be called a hole in the wall restaurant.

    We'll most likely be back.
